I am so grateful to God for the far he brought us even amidst the devasting impact of the novel corona Pandemic; he has been faithful because he is the unchanging God. Dear friends in Jesus Christ, Tochi Community Transformation Initiative is one among others community based and Christian organizations that draws its inspirations and vision from the Bible; For example, creation of human beings in God’s image (Genesis 1:26-28), redemption of the Israelites from the oppressive regime of Pharaoh (Exodus), God’s call for mercy, compassion and justice (Micah, 6:8), prophetic roles in condemning socio-economic injustices, structural and systematic causes of injustices and multidimensional poverty (Amos), and the live and ministry of Jesus Christ and his prophetic and revolutionary proclamation in Luke 4:16-18. All these, among many other biblical exhortations and precepts leaves us as a Christian community with no option than to respond to the plight of the poor and participate in the redemptive work of God. Having been challenged by this fact and the reality in our context where people can hardly afford the basics needs, majority are trapped in vicious cycle of poverty described by; low earning, low-saving, low-consumption, low investment and not limited to exclusion, etc. We were ignited as the body of Christ to come together and charter ways to respond to multidimensional poverty and its impacts on our context and beyond. However, there is a unique way in which we are approaching fight against multidimensional poverty that is; using the Asset Based Community Development strategy, an inclusive, citizen-driven, bottom-up approach to development that empower the power to initiate and lead in their development without jettisoning the meaningful mutual independence with others partners.
